VITROLITE

Vitrolite was a popular material for both exterior & interior wall surfaces in the 1920's and 1930's. It was extensively used in the Art Deco and Art Moderne architectural styles, The tiles in our upstairs bathroom are a color called Jade Agate. These tiles are 8" X 12" X 3/8" thick. There were a substantial number of tiles that were loose and in danger of falling off, so we removed these to prevent damage to them. Deteriorating caulk / grout between tiles allowed water to seep behind the tiles if we used the shower. We brought in a specialist to restore this room to its original beauty. The porcelain over cast iron wall fixtures (soap dishes, towel bars, cup nook, toilet tissue holder) were also in poor condition with chipped & worn porcelain and rust. They have all been removed and are being reglazed.
